Kalorama Park Erosion Control

Capital Projects

Kalorama Park, located at 1875 Columbia Road, NW, currently has erosion control issues at the northwest corner of the site. Excessive storm water run-off from slopes and hard surface areas within the park causes topsoil to erode, tree roots to be exposed, and storm drains to clog.

An erosion control project was constructed in 2010 - 2011 with the goal of remediating these drainage and erosion issues. The work performed was unsuccessful and the general contractor was released from the project.

In 2012, a report was commissioned by DPR to investigate the work performed by the general contractor. The report documented the current conditions on site, and provided recommendations on ways to repair the work and resolve the ongoing stormwater management and erosion issues at the park.

As a result of the report’s findings, DPR and the Department of General Services (DGS) are now moving forward on implementing these recommendations. A new renovation project to repair failing erosion and stormwater control elements at the park is now being developed. As of June 2013, DPR is working with DGS to finalize the funding and scope of work for the project. Updated information on the project will be provided on this website as it becomes available.
