Wednesday, July 20, 2016
Select Spray Parks, Pools and Recreation Centers Hours Extended

DPR Customer Service: (202) 673-7647
DPR Media Contact: Gwendolyn Crump, (202) 288-6027, [email protected]

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that the 2nd Annual DPR Rec Day event, scheduled for Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Randall Recreation Center (South Capital and I Streets, SW), is canceled due to the District's heat emergency and out of concern that participants and staff may experience prolonged heat exposure.

For immediate relief, DPR has announced that the operating hours at select spray parks have been extended weekdays through Friday, July 29, 2016. Select spray parks will operate from 10 am until 9 pm instead of 7 pm on weekdays.

To beat the heat on Saturday, July 23, 2016, select DPR pools will operate with extended hours until 9 pm instead of most pools closing at 6 pm. Also on Saturday, July 23, 2016, select recreation centers will operate as cooling centers with extended hours until 9 pm.

A heat emergency is in effect for Washington, DC. Residents are urged to take precautions against the heat. While pools and spray parks will be open for extended hours, DPR strongly encourages residents to seek relief in cool, indoor locations as there is an added risk for those who remain outside in the heat.

To find information on cooling centers, pools, spray parks and more details about heat emergencies, please visit Heat Emergency Information. In the case of an emergency, please call 911.
