DPR Closed in Observance of the Emancipation Day Holiday

(WASHINGTON, DC) The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced today that all DPR recreation centers, aquatic facilities and administrative offices will be closed Wednesday, April 16, in observance of DC Emancipation Day.

Also, DPR's Spring Break Camp will not be in session on April 16.

All scheduled permitted events and activities on DPR fields will be made available for the permitted period only.

DPR is partnering on an event, the DC Emancipation Day Lights of Freedom candle light vigil, with the Washington Parks & People and the National Park Service at the Walter Pierce Park (Adams Mill Road and Ontario Road, NW), from 6 pm to 9:30 pm. (Enter from the Calvert Street side.) More than 8,000 freed slaves are buried in the Adams Morgan area, including Walter Pierce Park.
