DPR's Urban Gardens Division offers over 100 free classes each year focused on practical urban gardening skills and taught by some of the most innovative and talented leaders of DC’s urban garden movement. Currently, 4 class series types are offered throughout the year.
Spring Urban Garden Certificate Course

Are you a prepared gardener? Are you up to date on calendar planning, pest & disease maintenance, or how to manage your garden vegetables? Join us for this annual, free, 16 class course (over the course of 7 weeks) to learn all that you need to know to manage a successful urban home garden and various garden projects. Please note, participants must complete all 16 workshops and upon successful completion, participants will receive a "DPR Urban Garden certificate."

Garden Carpentry Course
An annual, free, 3 workshop course (10 hours total) that covers all the basics of carpentry needed to build an innovative urban garden. Please note, participants must enroll and complete all 3 workshops in this course series.

Summer Urban Garden Series
From Urban Garden 101 to Organic Disease/Pest Maintenance to Garden Cooking to Bee Keeping, over 40 free, individual urban gardening workshops and field trips are offered through this 5 month series held annually from May to September. Participants are able to sign up for as many (or as few) series worshops as they desire. Workshops are held at Raymond Recreation Center, Deanwood Recreation Center or various Urban Gardening Partner/Contractor locations.

Fall Master Urban Composter Course
This short course will focus 100% on multiple urban composting systems that are critter proof, environmentally responsible, free of any foul odors and functioning right now in DC. Learn the best practices and knowledge to set up each of these systems in any DC environment from the people who are leading DPR’s responsible composting movement. Then join the movement. Help us make urban composting responsible.
This short course is a 8 class, 16 hour course with a 15 hour volunteer requirement to receive a Urban Master Composter Certificate.
