DPR Reduced Rates for 2019 Summer Camp Now Open

(WASHINGTON, DC) – DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is NOW accepting reduced rate applications for its 2019 summer camp season. To apply customers must visit the Summer Camp Office located at Columbia Heights Recreation Center (1480 Girard Street, NW – Ward 1) with correct documentation to qualify for a discount. Summer Camp Office hours of operations are Monday 9:30 am – 7 pm and Tuesday – Friday 9:30 am – 5 pm.

In addition to the Columbia Heights office, DPR offers two other locations to apply for reduced rate. These two locations will accept applications from January 21 – May 3, 2019. During this period, applicants must come in-person to turn in and/or complete a reduced rate application. Applications will be accepted at the locations listed below, and ONLY during the designated days and times for each location:

  • Barry Farm Recreation Center
    1230 Sumner Road SE (Ward 8) Monday – Friday: 10 am - 2 pm
    Applicants may come apply after 5 pm by appointment only. Please call 202-442-5513 to schedule an evening appointment.
  • Deanwood Recreation Center
    1350 49th Street NE (Ward 7)
    Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10 am - 2 pm; Tuesday and Thursday: 5 pm – 8 pm

After May 3, 2019, all customers will have to visit the Summer Camp Office located at Columbia Heights Community Center (1480 Girard Street, NW – 4th Floor).

While applications for reduced rate are being accepted, camp registration will not open until Monday, February 25, 2019. The goal of the pre-qualification period is to assist residents with completing their reduced rate applications so they can easily register for camp when registration opens on February 25, 2019. Please note that reduced rate applications will be accepted throughout the entire Summer 2019 season.

Note: DPR can only accept applications for reduced rate in person and applications must be approved for reduced rate prior to registering for camp. If an applicant registers for camp and does not submit a reduced rate application, the applicant will not be eligible to apply for reduced rate and reduced rate refunds will not be issued once camp registration is complete. Reduced rate does not apply to before and after care fees, and does not apply to DPR REC camps.

In order to qualify for a reduced rate for DPR Summer Camps, applicants must be a DC resident and must provide proof of residency and proof of income below the poverty level, according to Federal guidelines.

Applicants for a reduced rate are REQUIRED to provide the following:

  • Reduced rate application (can be completed at the Summer Camp office)
  • A copy of your 2017 or 2018 tax return
  • At least ONE document to prove DC residency (choose one of the following documents):
    • Pay stub (issued within the last 45 days)
    • Utility bill (gas, electric, or water within the past 2 months)
    • Valid DC Motor Vehicle Registration
    • Valid DC-government issued photo
    • Valid lease or rental agreement
    • A notarized letter signed by the persons with whom you reside that includes your name, your child(ren), and address.
    • Two pieces of mail with your current name, address, and date, must accompany the notarized letter.

DPR Summer Camp office may request birth certificates and/or other income sources including TANF, unemployment benefits, child support payments or SSI; if tax documents are not available. Applications can only be considered if accompanied by ALL of the required documentation.

Applicants should be aware DPR has a new registration system and your old account may not work. Applicants should SET UP A NEW ACCOUNT before registration begins on February 25th.
