Job Summary
The incumbent of this position will serve as a Recreation Specialist in a recreation center and will work closely with the supervisor in all facets of the program.  The incumbent will assist the supervisor in developing and carrying out a successful recreation program and may be required to attend various neighborhood meetings, frequently contacts neighborhood groups and businesses to stimulate interest in the support of daily and/or special events.
Instructs, officiates and participates in the various activities that have been assigned.  Focuses on both short and long term goals.  Activities which are prescribed by higher organizational levels such as model making contests, sports, and tournaments, arts and crafts, drama, etc.; organized trips and outings, special interests clubs, parties, dances, arts and crafts and as needed, a center may be used for athletic playoffs and final contests assignments necessary for the completion of the program.
Assists supervisor in the daily inspection of all equipment and facilities to ascertain degree of safety; brings to the attention of the supervisor all detected hazardous conditions and initiates work orders for repairs.
Sets examples of citizenship and when requested and deemed advisable, may render advice and guidance in personal situations.
Serves on committees having responsibility for providing specific or seasonal programs that culminate at a higher level.
