2017 Summer Camp Reduced Rate Policies

Please note:
- The 
Reduced Rate Pre-Qualification period began on Monday, January 23, 2017.
2017 Summer Camp Rolling Registration began on Monday, February 27, 2017.

2017 Reduced Rate Information

** Effective January 1, 2017, DPR's reduced rate policies have changed. 

The reduced rate pre-qualification period began on Monday, January 23, 2017. 

During this period, applicants must come, in-person, to turn in and/or complete, a reduced rate application.  Applications will be accepted at the locations listed below, and ONLY during the designated days and times for each location:

  • Barry Farm Recreation Center
    1230 Sumner Road SE  (Ward 8)
    Monday - Friday from 10 am to 2 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm
  • DPR Summer Camps Office
    Columbia Heights Community Center
    1480 Girard Street NW - 4th Floor (Ward 1)
    Mondays from 9:30 am - 7 pm
    Tuesdays - Fridays from 9:30 am to 5 pm
  • Deanwood Recreation Center 
    1350 49th Street NE  (Ward 7)
    Monday - Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm

The goal of the pre-qualification period is to assist DC residents with completing their reduced rate applications so that they can easily register for summer camp when registration opens on Monday, February 27, 2017. 

Families wanting to apply for a reduced rate must apply PRIOR to registering for camp.  Reduced rate refunds will NOT be issued once a registration has been completed.  Also, please note that a reduced rate does NOT apply to before and after care fees, and does not apply to REC Camps.

DPR will begin accepting reduced rate applications on Monday, January 23, 2017; however, applications will be accepted throughout the entire Summer 2017 season. 

In order to qualify for a reduced rate for DPR Summer Camps, applicants must be a DC resident and must provide proof of residency and proof of income below the poverty level, according to Federal guidelines. Below are the required materials and current household income levels as established by the U.S. Federal Government (as of 2016-2017) that must be met in order to qualify:

Eligibility amounts based upon United States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service, Child Nutrition Programs, Income Eligibility Guideline July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017 Federal Register / Vol. 81, No. 56 / Wednesday, March 23, 2016 / Notices.

Applicants are REQUIRED to provide the following:

  • A completed reduced rate application (please click the link to download the form, complete it and turn it in to one of the designated locations.  Blank forms will also be available at one of the three locations.)
  • A copy of your 2015 or 2016 tax return
  • At least ONE document to prove DC residency (choose one of the following documents):
    • Valid DC-government issued photo ID
    • Pay stub (issued within the last 45 days)
    • Utility bill (gas, electric, or water within the past 2 months)
    • Valid DC motor vehicle registration
    • Valid lease or rental agreement
    • A notarized letter signed by the person(s) with whom you reside.  The letter must include your name, your child(ren), and address.  Also, two pieces of mail with your current name, address, and date, must accompany the notarized letter.

DPR Summer Camp office may request birth certificates and/or other income sources including TANF, unemployment benefits, child support payments or SSI; if tax documents are not available.

Applications should keep in mind that applications can only be considered if accompanied by ALL of the required documentation.  Applications must be submitted in-person at one of the designated locations listed above.  Applications send vie email or fax will not considered nor accepted.
