The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has undertaken the development and construction of the new “10th Street Park.” The 0.20-acre site fronts 10th Street, NW and is bounded to the north by an alley; to the south by a residential building; and to the east by an alley. Access to the park is from 10th Street. The park opened April 2011.
Working with the neighborhood, DPR has designed the new park to include the following:
- Hardscaped plaza
- Open lawn
- Play area with unitary rubber surface and creative play structures, such as climbing boulders
- Landscaping featuring native plants
- Bio-retention areas to control stormwater
- Decorative water feature
- Low-level lighting
- Furnishings such as benches, tables, chairs and trash cans
- Elements memorializing local activist Connie Maffin and recognizing community service in general
