Project Description

The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has launched the master planning process for a new Kenilworth-Parkside Recreation Center.  The future recreation center will be at the site of Kenilworth Elementary School.

Over the next few months, DPR has been working with community stakeholders and sister agencies to develop a program plan and conceptual designs for the new facility and outdoor amenities.

The planning started with a Kick-Off Planning Meeting at Kenilworth Elementary School on November 20, 2013. In January, stakeholder focus groups were held with representatives from the neighborhood. On March 1st, community members joined us for a design workshop.

DPR and DGS presented concept designs for the new recreation center at a meeting at Kenilworth Elementary School on March 27, 2014. The presentation is posted below.

A community meeting to introduce the architect, review the approved concept, and discuss preferences was held on October 2, 2014.

A community meeting to discuss the schematic design was held on October 29, 2014. The presentation from that meeting is posted below.

A community meeting was held on Monday, November 17, 2014, from 6:30pm - 8:00pm at Kenilworth Elementary School.

Mayor Bowser and District Officials held the Offiicial Kenilworth-Parkside Recreation Center Groundbreaking on November 6, 2015 at 3:30 pm.  (Last update)
