Mayor Gray to Cut Ribbon on New Noyes Playground

WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie; Department of General Services (DGS) Director Brian Hanlon; Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Jesús Aguirre; other government officials; Former ANC 5B Commissioner Vaughn Bennett and Commissioner Caroline Steptoe will join the Noyes community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate Noyes Playground, the District’s newest play space.
WHEN: Friday, July 19, 2013
10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
WHERE: Noyes Playground
10th and Franklin Streets NE
BACKGROUND: Noyes playground was a previously vacant parcel of land that has been transformed into a 1.1-acre park space with a unique “green” theme. Amenities include a community garden, a PebbleFlex® safety surface on the playground, a multi-purpose field, a shade structure, a walking path, fitness features for adults, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a community message board, an irrigated landscape, a plaza/community gathering area and game tables.
 
The new playground is part of the Play DC initiative, a partnership between DPR and DGS to evaluate, upgrade and maintain all of the play spaces in DPR’s inventory.
