(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Saturday, July 25th from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Randall Field (South Capitol and I Streets, SW), the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will celebrate National Park and Recreation Month with “Recreation Day,” an extravaganza featuring fun activities, entertainment and food for families from all eight wards. The theme is ‘80’s summer party,’ complete with roller skating and music. New activities are being added daily.

Residents from across DC can enjoy music, swimming, soccer, tennis, basketball, softball, moonbounces, dodgeball, face painting, horseshoes, line dancing, sack races, tug of war, face painting, arts and crafts, fitness demonstrations and just announced - the DPR Rock Wall! These activities and much more will be part of the day.

DPR Recreation Day will also feature a “Mini Truck Touch”, where residents can experience DC government vehicles and get in the drivers seat, hunk horns and discover how to operate these vehicles.

Also, join us for “Talent Search,” where residents can go onstage in DPR’s Showmobile and sing, dance, or perform whatever talent they have for fun and DPR prizes.  Green thumbs can enjoy gardening tips and demonstrations.

The outdoor pool will be open and fully staffed, and the tennis courts will be open for spirited competition.

This event is open to the public, and is free of charge.

DPR Recreation Day is sponsored in part by Blind Whino SW Arts Club, a non-profit organization and event space located in the Southwest Corridor of Washington DC founded by Shane Pomajambo of Art Whino and Ian Callender of Suite Nation. The organization was founded on the principal that art is a catalyst for change in a community, providing inspiration and motivation for those that encounter its power.

Cricket Wireless is also providing food for this event.
