DPR strives to keep outdoor fields open as much as possible for recreation and play. However, closures may be necessary at times to protect the field from excessive damage. Additionally, DPR closes all grass fields during the winter months, starting the third Monday in November through the third Saturday in March. This year, the winter closure will run from Monday, November 20, 2023 through Saturday, March 16, 2024.

Typically, grass fields will be closed based on the volume of rain. All fields (grass and turf) will be closed when there is any sign of lightning. In addition to protecting our fields during inclement weather, public safety is also an important factor when determining whether or not to close DPR fields.
