It's February, and that means it's Black History Month again. Naturally, we are devoted to sharing with our youth a look at great documentaries about African American heroes and accomplishments.
All DPR recreation centers, aquatic facilities and administrative offices will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
Grass fields have closed for the season and they will remain closed. No permits have been issued for January 19.
All other fields, courts, playgrounds and parks will remain open for free use/play on Monday, January 19 in observance of the holiday.

The aquatic facility remains open.

(Washington, DC) - The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has closed the following recreation centers as a result of staff call outs, due to today's inclement weather:
The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has temporarily closed Hearst Recreation Center (3950 37th Street, NW) for at least one week due to a strong odor and some facility damage due to the weather. The site is offline starting today, Monday, January 5, 2015 through Monday, January 12, 2015. The Department of General Services (DGS) is currently on-site, conducting an assessment of the center and administering all site repairs and maintenance.
All programs, events and indoor permitted events taking place at the center are being relocated.
Participants will be trained in the Olympic Sport of Taekwondo. Athletes will learn the basic offensive and defensive techniques of this exciting sport. Train with the system, taught by National Team members, that produces competitive excellence.
Students in grades 3 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 are invited to submit essays for the fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. "I Have a Dream" essay contest.
Submissions must be legible and are open to any concept surrounding MLK's dream for the American society. Essays are to be no longer than 50 to 100 words and must be submitted to Mr. Dent no later than 7 pm on Thursday, January 15, 2014.
The first, second and third place winners in each grade category will receive awards.
