Shaw Temporary Dog Park

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), in coordination with the Executive Office of the Mayor and DC Public Schools (DCPS) constructed a public off-leash temporary dog park at Shaw field, located at 11th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, NW. Access to the dog park is from 11th Street, NW.

The approximately 15,000 square foot dog park features:

  • 5 foot high chain link fencing
  • Dog park surface of pea gravel and stone dust
  • 2 enclosures - one for large dogs (25 pounds and larger) and one for small dogs
  • 3 waste disposal stations
  • 1 community bulletin board

DPR also replaced the existing chain link fence along 11th Street, NW.

This temporary dog park is scheduled to close in June 2010 to accommodate the construction of a new Shaw School.

Schedule and Status

Construction began in September 2008 and the Shaw Dog Park opened to the public in November 2008.

The Shaw temporary dog park is maintained and operated as a partnership between DPR and the MidCity Beautification and Education Association.
