Shepherd Field currently has a soccer field surrounded by a running track. DC Public Schools' Shepherd Elementary School is adjacent to the field and playground equipment is located next to the school. A hill separates the existing track and field and the school and the playground.
The goal of the master plan project is to modernize the soccer field and the walking/jogging track; enhance the connection between the field and school and provide a playground for all age groups. Construction is currently underway to modernize and renovate Shepherd Field. The improvements to the field will include:
- Seating
- Shade Structure
- New walking/jogging track
- New fencing
- New perimeter trees
- New landscaping
- New playground for all ages
- New parcourse (adult fitness equipment)
- New under-12 (50 x 80 yards) soccer field
- ADA access to the property
