(WASHINGTON, DC) - This December, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) invites everyone to come out and enjoy an array of events including Holiday events, toy and clothing drives, a Hand Dance Explosion and more!

DPR Permit Application Window opens November 30 - December 11, 2015

During this time period the agency will accept permit applications.  Applications received during the permit window are reviewed and applicants are notified of their permit status during the 'notification period'.  DPR will handle all late permit requests for fields and gyms in the order they are received.  Late permit requests will not be processed until after all on time permit requests, submitted during the permit window, are complete.

Important Dates:

  • Permit Application Window: Monday, November 30 - December 11, 2015
  • Application Deadline: 11:59 pm on Friday, December 11, 2015
  • Permit Notifications: The week of January 18, 2016
  • The 2015 Spring/Summer permit season is Sunday, March 20, 2016 through Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

Young Ladies On the Rise Gift of Giving

The YLOR participants will join together to celebrate the holidays, make crafts, bake cookies, and wrap gifts from the toy drive. Toys can be donated to all participating YLOR locations.

Move Grow Be Green Radio Show
Tune in at 10 am for "DPR's Move Grow Be Green" monthly radio show, hosted by DPR Deputy Director  - John Stokes.

Warm Hearts Drive Packing Party
Fort Stevens Recreation Center (1327 Van Buren Street, NW – Ward 4)
Time: 3:30 pm – 9 pm
Ages: 6 yrs. & older (intergenerational)
Warm Hearts is our winter donation drive where Fort Stevens Recreation Center Senior Division and youth join together in an intergenerational event to help the homeless and less fortunate by collecting hats, socks, gloves and other items to help make those in need warmer during the winter.

Kennedy Holiday Extravaganza
Kennedy Recreation Center (1401 7th Street, NW – Ward 6)
Time: 6 pm - 8 pm
Ages: 3 yrs. - 14 yrs.
The Kennedy Holiday Extravaganza participants will enjoy holiday music, a picture with Santa, catered dinner, and a gift for the first 200 children ages 3 -14 yrs. Please note that the child must be present to participate.

My School DC EdFest
DC Armory (2001 East Capitol Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003)
Time: 11 am – 3 pm
Ages: All are Welcome
Come to EdFEST and explore the city’s many public school options (PK3-12) for your child. Representatives from more than 150 DC public schools (DCPS) and DC public charter schools will showcase their programs. This is the perfect opportunity to ask questions about school and related services and programs, including special education and services for English Language Learners (ELLs), and to be introduced to the culture of a school by those who know first-hand. OSSE will also be in attendance at EdFEST providing information on pre-K, the Partnership for Assessments of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test and opportunities for District youth and young adults to get back into school. Admission is free, so bring the whole family!

Hand Dance Explosion

DPR will operate two sessions for the 2015 Winter Wondercamp.
