Celebrating History in February : DPR Events

(Washington, DC) February is filled with amazing events and opportunities to celebrate history, competition and fun at the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR)!

Summer camp registration opens February 10th at 12 noon! Priority registration for DC Residents begins on February 10th, and continues until camps open in June. Open registration for non-District residents starts March 10th.  Camp registration will remain open until that session or camp location is full.  Go to http://summercamps.dpr.dc.gov for more information.

The 28th Annual Black History Invitational Swim Meet will take place at Takoma Aquatic Facility (300 Van Buren Street, NW) from February 14 – 16.  Teams from across the nation will compete.  Volunteers are still needed for this years meet.  For more information or to volunteer, visit http://bit.ly/BHISM.

The 8th Annual Blacks in Wax “Souls of the Movements” production will take place at the Eagle Center at McGogney (3400 Wheeler Road, SE - Ward 8) on Friday, February 28th and at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday, March 9th. “Souls of the Movements” features the portrayal of more than 60 diverse, historical and contemporary icons. Ages: All are Welcome  / Registration is required
The Urban Gardening 201 courses will educate participants in the variety of challenges of urban gardening from growing food, designing gardens, creating soil fertility, staying organic, protecting the environment, cooking what you grow, becoming a food justice advocate and more.  The courses will focus towards gardeners with at least a year of experience.
