DC Department of Parks and Recreation Hosts Opening Ceremony for 41st DC Senior Games
The DC Senior Games delegation has won the last two National Senior Games Cups, awarded to the state that wins the most medals
(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will open the 41st Annual DC Senior Games. This year’s games are a sanctioned qualifier for the National Senior Games (NSG) and features over a dozen sports played across the District. DC Senior Games competitions take place Saturday, August 24 at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center at 9am and continue until September 27, 2024.
DC Senior Games is a yearly competition, first hosted in 1983, featuring basketball, bowling, horseshoe toss, pickleball, softball, swimming, tennis, cornhole, golf, and track & field. The event is open to athletes age 50 and older.
Qualifying participants will be invited to the 2025 National Senior Games, which take place every two years, next occurring July 24 – August 4, 2025, in Des Moines, Iowa. The DC team has won the last two NSG Cups, awarded to the state that wins the most medals per athlete.
The DC Senior Games opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 12:00 noon at Ballou Senior High School, 3401 4th Street SE.
