(Washington, DC) – DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced it will have its first Law & Order Teen Conference for teens enrolled in DPR Teen Program to teach them about the justice system, the laws in the District, their role in keeping our neighborhoods safe and to encourage them to become positive, active leaders in their community. The event will teach teens about the impact of laws, and violence in an environment of their peers and influencers. The event takes place on Friday, May 4, 2018, 6:30 p.m. at Raymond Recreation Center.

“Summer is coming quickly and as so many teens come through our doors, it is important that we begin a dialogue with them about our justice system and how they can help reduce violence in our communities,” explained DPR Director Keith A. Anderson.   “This event is just the beginning of what we will be doing to engage with teens and a proactive step towards making DC a safer, stronger community for all ages."

The Law & Order Teen Conference will feature engaging discussions with teens, important informational takeaways, free food and entertainment. Special guests at the event will include: Anwan Glover, actor, community activist and founder of The Backyard Band; Tanisha Murden, Co-Chair of DC Commission on Re-Entry & Returning Citizens Affairs; and WKYS 93.9FM personality Aladdin “Prince of the Airwayz.”

Breakout sessions include: Understanding the Legal System, Conflict Resolution, Healthy Relationships, Know Your Rights and Playing Your Part.
