DPR Announces the 2012 Outdoor Pools Closure and Indoor Pools Maintenance Schedule

DPR begins to close Outdoor Pools, Spray Parks and Children's Pools for the 2012 Summer Season, DPR will also close select Indoor Pools for yearly maintenance

DPR released the outdoor pools closing schedule for the 2012 Summer season, as DPR prepares to bring this years swim season to a close.

(Washington, DC) - Today, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) released the outdoor pools closing schedule for the 2012 summer season, as DPR prepares to bring the swim season to a close.  Beginning on Sunday, August 12, 2012 - DPR will implement the first wave of outdoor pool closures, as well as the temporary closure maintenance schedule for indoor pools.

  • All Outdoor Pools will close in phases beginning Sunday, August 12, 2012.  East Potomac Pool will remain open beyond the summer season, until Saturday, October 6, 2012.
  • All Spray Parks will close on Monday, September 3, 2012 with the exception of 3 spray parks - 14th & Girard; 14th & Park and Petworth. These spray parks will close on Sunday, September 30, 2012.
  • All Children's Pools will close on Sunday, August 19, 2012.
  • DPR's indoor aquatic centers that operate year-round, will undergo their yearly scheduled maintenance beginning on Sunday, August 12th.  Ferebee-Hope and the Therapeutic Recreation Center pools will not close during this phase of fall maintenance.

  • Closing on Sunday, August 12 for the season:
    • Ward 5: Langdon Park Pool  (2860 Mills Avenue, NW)
    • Ward 7: Benning Park Pool (5100 Southern Avenue, SE); Kelly Miller Pool  (4900 Brooks Street, NE)
    • Ward 8: Douglass Pool (1921 Fredrick Douglass Court, SE)
  • Closing on Sunday, August 19 for the season:
    • Ward 1: Parkview Children's Pool (693 Otis Place, NW); Happy Hollow Children's Pool (2200 Champlain Street, NW)
    • Ward 5: Harry Thomas Sr. Pool (1743 Lincoln Road, SE)
    • Ward 6: Lincoln Capper Children's Pool (555 L Street, SE); Watkins Children's Pool (420 - 12th Street, SE)
    • Ward 8:  Barry Farm Pool (1230 Sumner Road, SE); Barry Farm Children's Pool (1230 Sumner Road, SE)
  • Closing on Sunday, August 26 for the season:
    • Ward 5: Theodore Hagans Jr. Pool (3201 Fort Lincoln Drive, NE)
    • Ward 6: Randall Pool (25 I Street, SW)
    • Ward 8: Anacostia Pool (1800 Anacostia Drive, SE) ; Oxon Run Pool (501 Mississippi Avenue, SE)

    • Ward 3: Friendship Spray Park (4500 Van Ness Street, NW); Palisades Spray Park (5200 Sherier Place, NW)
    • Ward 4: Lafayette Spray Park (5900 33rd Street, NW) ; Riggs LaSalle Spray Park (501 Riggs Road, NE)
    • Ward 7: Joe Cole Spray Park (1299 Neal Street, NE)
  • Closing on Sunday, September 30 for the season:
    • Ward 1: 14th & Girard Spray Park (14th and Girard Street, NW); 14th & Park Road Spray Park (14th Street and Park Road, NW)
    • Ward 4: Petworth Spray Park (801 Taylor Street, NW)

 

INDOOR POOLS CLOSURE SCHEDULE

  • Takoma Aquatic Center (300 Van Buren Street, NW | Ward 4)  will close from Sunday, August 19 through Saturday, August 25, 2012.
  • Wilson Aquatic Center (4551 Fort Davis Drive, NW | Ward 3) will close from Sunday, August 26 through Saturday, September 8, 2012.
  • Deanwood Aquatic Center (1350 - 49th Street, NE | Ward 7) will close from Sunday, September 2 through Sunday, September 15, 2012.
  • Turkey Thicket Aquatic Center (1100 Michigan Avenue, NE | Ward 5) will close from Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16, 2012.
  • William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center (635 North Carolina Avenue, SE | Ward 6) will close from Sunday, September 16 through Saturday, October 6, 2012.
  • Marie H. Reed Aquatic Center (2200 Champlain Street, NW | Ward 1) will close from Sunday, September 16 through Saturday, September 29, 2012.
