DPR Announces Closure Schedules for Inauguration Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day

All DPR Centers, Aquatic Facilities and Offices will be Closed on Sunday, January 20 & Monday, January 21, 2013

DPR announced today that all DPR Centers, Aquatic Facilities and Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2013 in observance of the Presidential Inauguration (observed) and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced today that all DPR Centers, Aquatic Facilities and Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2013 in observance of the Presidential Inauguration (observed) and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

All Aquatic Facilities will be closed on Sunday, January 20, 2013 in observance of the Presidential Inauguration.

Grass fields have closed for the season and they will remain closed.

No permits have been issued for January 20 or January 21.

All other fields, courts, playgrounds and parks will remain open for free use/play on Sunday, January 20th and Monday, January 21st in observance of the holidays.

Due to Inauguration activities within select DPR Recreation Centers, gymnasiums in the following sites will be closed and unavailable to the public on Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19.  All activities normally scheduled for the gymnasiums will be cancelled.  

  • Kennedy Recreation Center : 1401 7th St., NW (Ward 6)
  • King Greenleaf Recreation Center : 201 N St., SW (Ward 6)
  • Sherwood Recreation Center : 640 10th St., NE (Ward 6)
  • Turkey Thicket Recreation Center : 1100 Michigan Ave., NE (Ward 5)

These sites will have a delayed opening on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 1 pm.
