Washington, DC - The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that two teams from DC will advance to the Pop Warner Super Bowl National Championships held from Saturday, December 3rd through Saturday, December 10th. The Beacon House Falcons will play in the Junior Pee Wee Division (ages 8 – 11) . This marks the second year in a row that the Beacon House Falcons have advanced to the Pop Warner National Championships. They won the National title last year against the Liberty City Warriors of Florida. The Marshall Heights Bison will play in the Pee Wee Division (ages 9 – 12). Marshall Heights will make their second appearance since 2006 when they won the National Championship in the Midget Division.

DPR is the only recreation department in the country to hold a Pop Warner charter. DC Pop Warner has 82 teams and close to 2,000 youth who participate during the regular season.

DPR Director Jesus Aguirre states, “DPR is very proud of our DC Pop Warner teams, the Beacon House Falcons and the Marshall Heights Bison. For the third year in a row the District is supporting DC Pop Warner teams and is sending them to the National Championships. The parents, coaching staff and DPR staff are also to be congratulated, and the success of these teams is due largely in part to their commitment and dedication to our youth.”

The Pop Warner Super Bowl takes place at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The Beacon House Falcon Division I Jr. Pee Wees will play their 1st round Sunday, December 4th at 8:30 am. The Marshall Height Bison Division I Pee Wees will play their 1st round Sunday, December 4th at 10:30 am.

The Beacon House Falcons football team defeated the Northwest Raiders (PA), 37-7, on Saturday, November 26 to earn their way to the Pop Warner National Championships. On the same day, the Marshall Heights Bison defeated the Rahway Chiefs (PA), 18-6, to make their way to Pop Warner National Championship.

The Football National Championships consist of 64 teams from 8 Pop Warner Regions playing in 4 age/weight classifications ( Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Jr. Midget, Midget). There are two divisions, Division I and Division II, each fielding 32 teams.

A football team plays a 7 to 9 game schedule and at the end of the regular season, usually during the last week in October, a team prepares for league playoffs. Once a league champion has been decided and a team has won the right to participate in regional championships. Those teams that win at the regional championships are invited to ESPN Wide World of Sports to compete for a national championship in the Jr. Peewee, Peewee, Jr. Midget, and Midget divisions. 68 games take place throughout the 6-day event in December, including the Division I Midget National Championship game, which is featured on ESPN and ESPN2 throughout the NFL Super Bowl week.

The 2011 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships will take place from Saturday, December 3rd through Saturday, December 10th at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
