DPR Facilities Affected by the District's Severe Thunderstorm

Many DPR locations are still without power

Today DPR announced, due to the District's second heat wave of 100° and above temperatures, DPR will extend the operating hours at select pools on Friday, June 29 through Sunday, July 1st.

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Due to the damage of last nights storm, DPR has suffered power outages and major debris at a few recreation centers and pools.  Please see the DPR Report below.

Please note that crews from HSEMA, DGS, Pepco and Fire and EMS are working diligently to address issues city-wide from last nights storm.  DPR is asking that residents stay off the street and allow crews to work to restore power and remove debris.

Recreation & Community Centers
The following centers are CLOSED due to power outages:

  • Ward 1: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 2: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 3:  Hardy and Stoddert
  • Ward 4: Riggs LaSalle
  • Ward 5: Arboretum and Turkey Thicket
  • Ward 6: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 7: Deanwood, Fort Davis, Benning Stoddert and Hillcrest
  • Ward 8: Douglass and Bald Eagle

Power has been restored to:

  • Palisades
  • Harry Thomas
  • Pools
  • The following pools are closed due to power outages:
  • East Potomac, Douglass, Turkey Thicket and Deanwood

Pools Delayed openings

  • Barry Farms Childrens Pool - 30 minute delay.  Continued delay.
  • Francis – at least one hour delay.  Tree has fallen in the deep end of the pool.  Crews on site, pool is partially opened.
  • Fort Dupont – had a one hour delay.  It is now reporting open.
  • Harry Thomas – one hour delay.  Continued delay.
  • Upshur – had a 15 minute delay.  It is now reporting open.
  • Volta – one hour delay.  Continued delay.
  • Watkins – had at least a one hour delay.  It is now reporting open.

Please Note: Pools will re-open when debris is cleared and water levels are at quality.  Please let crews work so that we can re-open pools quickly and most importantly, safely.

Areas with down trees or debris:

  • Fort Davis Park
  • Guy Mason Rec Ctr (center is open)
  • Hillcrest Park
  • Hillcrest Rec Ctr – a tree is blocking the entrance (center is closed)
  • Kennedy Rec Ctr (center is open)
  • Lafeyette Rec Ctr (center is open)
  • Langdon Park & Rec Ctr (center is open)
  • Marie Reed – near the pool (center is open)
  • Ridge Road field
  • Stoddert Baseball field
  • Turkey Thicket Rec Ctr – down light post with exposed wires (center is closed)
  • Volta Park - near playground area

DPR Fields
Due to the continued extreme heat conditions, all DPR fields are closed/off-line. All DPR events and all permitted events on DPR fields are cancelled for the day.
