(Washington, DC) - The Washington City Paper (WCP) has released their annual "Best of D.C." staff and reader's poll.  This "Best of" list features all aspects of District life - from things that make the District a great place to live, work, and play; to some of the best restaurants, parks, doctors, bloggers and great places to visit throughout the city.  The "Best of" poll categories are: Arts & Entertainment, Food & Drink, Goods & Services, and People & Places and there are two divisions, the Staff picks and the Reader's poll.  For 2013, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) won the "Best of" in two categories, as well as two runner up positions in the Parks category.

Staff Pick for Best Playground: Upshur Recreation Center  (4300 Arkansas Ave., NW)
WCP reporter Mike Madden wrote, "Upshur Park, though, has it all: sturdy new equipment in bright colors and interesting shapes."   Located in Ward 4, Upshur Playground has something for everyone, including great play space features, a sandbox and a large sheltered picnic area.  Upshur Park is located adjacent to the Upshur Recreation Center, field and pool.

WCP reporter Aaron Wiener wrote, "Trek half a block past Bloomingdale into Northeast, and escape the crowds at Banneker or the tiny lanes at Upshur with a dip into the Harry Thomas Pool. You’re pretty much guaranteed a beach chair and a spacious lane to yourself—provided not too many of you take my advice."  Located in Ward 5, Harry Thomas Sr. Pool is one of the gems of Eckington where lap swimming is a community favorite.  Harry Thomas Sr. Pool is located adjacent to the Harry Thomas Sr. Recreation Center, however it is currently closed until the summer season.
