DPR Hosts Teen ‘Health Fest’ Focusing on Mental Wellness

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Bowser Administration and DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced that hundreds of District teens will gather for the “Take Care: Mind, Body and Soul Health Fest,” a teen-driven and teen-focused event at Kenilworth Recreation Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 (4321 Ord Street, NE).

“Our kids are the number one priority in the District,” said DPR Director Delano Hunter.  “Emerging from the pandemic, it has been a state of emergency for our teens in all eight wards and we are answering the call with unique ways of assisting with their well-being.”

This social experience is a part of DPR’s Supreme Teens program for kids 13 to 17 years old. The day's events will feature workshops and group discussions tackling important issues with open dialogue, real-life solutions, and fun while connecting them with targeted resources and vendors.

Take Care: Mind, Body and Soul, Health Fest will feature a resource fair, music, lunch, a scavenger hunt, and workshops.

Workshops include:

  • What's the Deal Down There - Anatomy and Sexual Health
  • Peace of Mind - Mental Mindfulness and Stress Relief
  • Pain into Purpose - Coping with Grief & Trauma
  • Food is Love - Dietary and Nutritional Health Cooking Class
  • Together We Create Beauty - Self-Expression Art Class

“We have an active teen division at DPR that proactively engages with youth,” said Hunter. “A request for mental health resources and a focus on their overall wellness was what we heard from our youth, and this event is a direct response to meet their needs.”

The event is open to teens with registration on-site. For more information, visit DPR.events.
