(Washington, DC) – The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is providing unique fitness activities to help District residents get in shape for the holidays. November marks the beginning of weekly workouts co-hosted by DPR and the November Project, DC Chapter, at different locations throughout the city.

“We recently released our winter programs; moving outside of that box allows us to get people excited about fitness in new ways and possibly involved in our more structured fitness classes,” explained DPR Director Keith A. Anderson.

November Project is a fitness movement started in Boston during cold months to kick start healthy choices and is now in various cities including Washington, DC since 2013. Workouts are for any fitness level and last about 35 minutes highlighting a different part of the District each week.

DPR has partnered with November Project to bring an energetic and fun workout every Friday in November titled, “#FitDCFriday.” The weekly workout marks the resurgence of Fit DC, a health and fitness initiative started by Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Department of Health.

The first #FitDCFriday was November 3rd at Stoddert Elementary School, where nearly 50 people came out for the invigorating morning exercise. The next workout is Friday, November 10th at DPR’s Kenilworth Park at 6:30 a.m. November 17th will include a morning workout utilizing the new pier at TheWharf. Later that evening for #FitDCFriday, DPR brings back” Funky FitDC Fridays,” a music-themed monthly workout that has become a DPR staple.

DPR will take over the “Instagram friendly” pop-up art exhibit Future of Sports for “Funky FitDC Fridays” on November 17th. The musical theme for the evening’s workout will be New Edition. Future of Sports is located at 700 H St NE.

More events will be announced. To find out more information and to RSVP for these fitness events and more, visit our DPR.events website.
