DPR Launches In-Person Registration for Camp Riverview — A Free, Unforgettable Summer Experience for DC Youth

(WASHINGTON, DC) -- The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced the launch of in-person registration for Camp Riverview, a free, full-service summer overnight and day camp exclusively for District residents. Located in scenic Scotland, Maryland, Camp Riverview offers children and teens ages 8-13 a rare opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors for a week away from home.

“This camp is one of DPR’s most exciting offerings and one of the most unique free camp experiences available anywhere in the region,” said DPR Director Thennie Freeman. “At a time when many families are still searching for quality summer programming, we’re proud to offer a free option away from the city to expand the horizons of our young people.”

Camp Riverview is not just another summer camp—an immersive, enriching experience connecting DC youth with nature, adventure, and lifelong memories. From horseback riding and fishing to ATV trails, wildlife encounters, and hands-on environmental education, Camp Riverview provides an unparalleled summer journey for young Washingtonians.

Registration is in-person only, taking place over the next two weeks at various recreation centers throughout the city. Registration for Camp Riverview runs through May 16, 2025. Staff will be on-site to help families choose the best sessions for their children and answer any questions about the program. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
