(WASHINGTON, DC) – During this season of plenty, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) invites everyone to come out and enjoy an array of events including Thanksgiving events, food and clothing drives, a Hip-Hop Chess Tournament and more!

Warm Hearts Hats, Socks & Gloves Drive
Fort Stevens Recreation Center (1327 Van Buren Street, NW – Ward 4)

Warm Hearts is our winter donation drive where Fort Stevens Recreation Center and the Fort Stevens Senior Division join together in an intergenerational event to help the homeless and less fortunate by collecting hats, socks, gloves and other items to help make those in need warmer during the winter.

DPR Program - DPR Master Urban Composter Course

Ages: Adult Gardeners
The DPR Urban Master Composter Course is an 11-class course focused on training future compost leaders in DC taught by multiple local composting experts using a wide variety of methods throughout the District. This short course will focus 100% on multiple urban composting systems that are critter proof, environmentally responsible, bad odor free and functioning right now in DC. Learn the best practices and knowledge to set up each of these systems in any DC environment from the people who are leading DC’s composting movement.

Move Grow Be Green Radio Show
Tune in at 10 am for "DPR's Move Grow Be Green" monthly radio show, hosted by DPR Deputy Director  - John Stokes.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of basketball, working as a team, physical activity, and how to officiate the game of basketball.

All DPR recreation/community centers, indoor aquatic centers and administrative offices are closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday.

Words Beats & Life Inc. invites you to the 10th Anniversary of Bum Rush The Boards at the Columbia Heights Recreation Center on November 14th for the livest Hip-Hop Chess Tournament of the year!
The tournament is open to youth of all skill levels. Registration for a full day of competition, lunch & activities is only $10. Admission is free to everyone coming to support and spectate.

To celebrate Thanksgiving, the community and staff will arrange a potluck dinner. The staff and volunteers will put together a basket for giveaway and bring dishes for the potluck dinner. The children will discuss what and why they are thankful.

17th Annual Ward 7 Feed the Homeless Event
Fort Davis Recreation Center (1400 41st Street, SE - Ward 7)
Time: 7 am - 1 pm
Ages: All are Welcome
The Fort Stevens Recreation Center staff and volunteers will cook and prepare breakfast sandwiches and fruit bags for homeless citizens of the District. The meal bags will be distributed throughout the city’s four quadrants to feed and assist those in need. Our goal is to serve 400 persons.

Bowling
Columbia Heights Community Center (1480 Girard Street, NW – Ward 1)

Ages: Teens
DPR Teen Division will take 80-90 teens from various sites to the Marlow Heights Bowling Alley (4717 St Barnabas Road, Temple Hills, MD 20748) for an afternoon of fun bowling.
