DPR Opens Recreation and Aquatic Facilities after Hurricane Sandy

DPR recreation centers, aquatic facilities, parks and playgrounds will open on Wednesday, October 31st

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Jesus Aguirre announced that as the District continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy - DPR, along with all District government agencies, will open on Wednesday, October 31st.

  • All 68 Recreation Centers will open with normal hours of operation.
  • The Cooperative Play Program will open.
  • All Aquatic Facilities will open.  Marie Reed and Ferebee Hope Aquatic Facility will open at 3 pm.
  • All grass fields will be CLOSED.  Synthetic fields will be open.
  • All parks and playgrounds will be open.
  • All permitted events on grass fields will be cancelled.
  • Early Voting: Early voting will take place from 8:30 am  to 9 pm (extended) on Wednesday, October 31; Thursday, November 1; Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3.  The early voting locations are: Chevy Chase Community Center; Columbia Heights Community Center; King Greenleaf Recreation Center; Southeast Tennis and Learning Center; Takoma Recreation Center and Turkey Thicket Recreation Center.
