DPR Operations Update

Current Status of Recreation Centers, Pools and Athletic Fields

DPR continues to clean up and open facilities in the wake of the major stormed experienced on Friday.  Please see the DPR Report below.

Please note that crews from HSEMA, DGS, Pepco and Fire and EMS are working diligently to address issues city-wide from the recent storm.  

RECREATION and COMMUNITY CENTERS

The following centers remain CLOSED due to power outages:

  • Ward 1: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 2: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 3:  Stoddert
  • Ward 5: Arboretum and Turkey Thicket
  • Ward 6: None.  All centers open
  • Ward 7: Fort Davis, Benning Stoddert and Hillcrest
  • Ward 8: Douglass and Bald Eagle

PLEASE NOTE: Summer Camp has been cancelled for these locations.

Additionally, Summer Youth Employment Workers (SYEP's) scheduled for these locations are urged to stay at home.

Power has been RESTORED to:

Deanwood, Hardy and Riggs Lasalle

DPR COOLING SHELTERS

For Sunday, July 1, DPR in conjunction with HSEMA, MPD, DHS and American Red Cross are managing the following shelters, established to assist residents who have experienced damage due to the recent storm.

DPR Recreation Centers Open as Cooling Shelters:

  • Ward 5 - North Michigan Park Recreation Center
    1333 Emerson Street NE
    Hours of operation: 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 a.m.
     
  • Ward 6 - Kennedy Recreation Center
    1401 7th Street NW

  • Ward 8 - Southeast Tennis & Learning Center

    Hours of operation: 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.

DPR AQUATIC FACILITIES

The following pools will be operating on an extended schedule for Sunday, July 1  (12:00 noon - 8:00 pm):

  • Ward 1:  Banneker Recreation Center Pool (2500 Georgia Avenue NW)
  • Ward 2:  Jelleff Recreation Center Pool (3265 S Street NW)
                  Francis Pool (25th & N Street, NW)
  • Ward 4:  Upshur Recreation Center Pool (4300 Arkansas Avenue NW)
  • Ward 5:  Harry Thomas Sr. Pool (1743 Lincoln Road, SE)
  • Ward 6:  Randall Pool (25 I Street SW)
  • Ward 7:  Fort Dupont Pool (830 Ridge Road, SE)
  • Ward 8:  Barry Farm Pool (1230 Sumner Road, SE)
                  Fort Stanton Pool (1800 Erie Street, SE)

The following pools are closed due to power outages:

  • East Potomac, Douglass, Turkey Thicket

DPR FIELDS

Due to the continued extreme heat conditions, all DPR fields are closed/off-line. All DPR events and all permitted events on DPR fields are cancelled for the day.
