DPR Releases the 2014 Winter Holiday Schedule

(WASHINGTON, DC) – In observance of the upcoming winter holidays, all DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) facilities will operate on the following schedule:

  • All facilities will close at 6 pm on Wednesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 31;
  • All facilities will be closed on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day); Friday, December 26 and Thursday, January 1 (New Years Day);
  • All DPR Recreation and Community centers will operate on an adjusted holiday schedule on December 22, 23, 29, 30 and January 2;
  • All DPR Aquatic centers will maintain normal hours of operation on December 22, 23, 29 and 30.  All aquatic centers will open at 9 am on Friday, January 2;
  • DPR fields will be closed on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day); Friday, December 26 and Thursday, January 1 (New Years Day).  No permits will be issued on these days;
  • There are no permitted recreation center or fields activities on December 25, 26 and 31. All grass fields are closed for the season. Parks, playgrounds and synthetic fields will be open for general use, however gated locations will remain locked; and
  • DPR's Winter Wondercamp will operate two sessions during DCPS' Winter Break.  Session 1 will take place on December 22 and 23; and session 2 will take place on December 29, 30 and January 2.  Spaces are still available and registration is required.

 

DPR's adjusted holiday schedule will include expanded operating hours on December 22, 23, 26, 29, 30 and January 2 at all DPR centers.  Select DPR locations (see the list below) will observe their individual, normal opening hours and will close at 8 pm.  All other sites (sites not listed below) will open at 11:30 am and close at 8 pm.

                  Turkey Thicket Recreation Center (1100 Michigan Avenue, NE)
- Ward 6 : Kennedy Recreation Center (1401 7th Street, NW)
                  King Greenleaf Recreation Center (201 N Street, SW

DPR will operate the DPR Winter Wondercamp on December 22 & 23; and December 29, 30 and January 2.  Camps will operate from 9 am to 5 pm, with before-care (8 am to 9 am) and after-care (5 pm to 6 pm) for camp participants only.  Camps will be offered for ages 6 to 12 years old and 8 to 13 years old for sports camp only.
