(Washington, DC) - Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) are proud to announce the #FitDC Father’s Day 5K will take place 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Kenilworth Park Track in Ward 7.

The Deputy Mayor for Greater Economic Opportunity and the Commission on Fathers, Men and Boys (CFMB) join in bringing together families in a celebration of fathers and men’s health, as well as bring awareness to gun violence in the District.

“What began as a fun run with families to celebrate fatherhood now includes a peace rally,” said DPR Director Keith A. Anderson. “Mayor Bowser has provided additional resources in Wards 7 and 8; these men can play a crucial role in helping curb the violence in our city.”

All participants will receive a free orange t-shirts to honor the Gun Free DC movement that began on June 1st with Mayor Bowser calling for the city to wear orange in support of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. This run continues to move that message forward as gun violence continues in Ward 7 and 8. Following the run, men are encouraged to be social, pledge to make a difference, take photos together as a group.

The course starts with a lap around the Kenilworth Track and leads runners on to the scenic Anacostia Riverwalk Trail up to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.

Rally Health will set up their mobile trailer and activate the “Rally on the Road” fitness experience while local partner Fitness Snob, a newly-opened fitness studio, will host the warm up to prep runners, and encourage families to embrace fitness. Ward 7's own local coffee pop-up Penny Brew will serve coffee. Families can enjoy creamy treats from Cajou, a local vegan creamery. Fresh Direct online grocery delivery will provide refreshments and Fit Fathers Foundation will host a kid dash race.
