High Temperatures and Severe Thunderstorms prompt DPR to suspend Outdoor Activities

(Washington, DC) - The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has announced that due to today's extreme heat conditions and the thundershowers that are sweeping through the District:

  • All outdoor fields and courts are closed.
  • All permitted athletic events are suspended.
  • Today's extended hours for outdoor pools will be rescinded due to the threat of severe thunderstorms expected in the District and unexpected lower temperatures.
  • Pools will close at their normal time, based on the area weather conditions.  
  • Outdoor pools located in areas of the city that continue to experience adverse weather conditions will not re-open today.
