Mayor Gray to Cut the Ribbon on Volta Park Playground

WHAT/WHO:  Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans; Department of General Services (DGS) Director Brian Hanlon; Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Director Jesús Aguirre; other government officials; and Friends of Volta Park member Mimzy Lindner will join the Volta Park community for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Volta Park Playground.

BACKGROUND: Volta Park Playground is the second play space to be completed under the Play DC initiative. The play space will feature new play equipment, a new PebbleFlex® safety surface, a refurbished sandbox, a new swing set and new benches. The Friends of Volta Park purchased and donated all of the new playground equipment and the District (DPR) funded the site demolition and prep, equipment installation and delivery, the purchase of the new swing set, safety surface, benches and the refurbished sandbox. Existing mature trees were utilized to ensure adequate shade in the park.
