Mayor Gray to Participate in Palisades Independence Day Parade and Open Newly Renovated Palisades Playground

WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Ward 3 Councilmember Mary Cheh, other Councilmembers, Department of General Services Director Brian Hanlon, Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Chief Operating Officer Bridget Stesney, other government officials, ANC 3D Commissioner Penny Pagano, the Friends of Palisades Recreation Center and the Palisades Citizens’ Association will join the Palisades community for the traditional Palisades Independence Day Parade and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at DPR’s newly renovated Palisades Recreation Center Playground.
WHEN: Thursday, July 4, 2013
11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. (parade and picnic)
12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. (playground opening)
WHERE: Parade begins at Our Lady of Victory School (4835 MacArthur Boulevard NW) and ends at the Palisades Recreation Center Playground (5200 Sherrier Place NW)
BACKGROUND: The Palisades Playground is the third of 32 city-wide PlayDC projects to be completed since PlayDC, a multi-year, citywide initiative and the largest playground renovation project in the District of Columbia’s history, was announced by Mayor Gray in October 2012. The concept for the Palisades project centers around the Native American history in the Palisades community. New features include a shade structure, a spray park, outdoor fitness equipment, a small skate spot, and an expanded community garden.
