Mayor Vincent C. Gray, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the DC Office on Aging (DCOA) will welcome over 1,000 seniors to DPR's Annual Senior Picnic, The 2012 Senior Fest, on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

(Washington, DC)  Mayor Vincent C. Gray, The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) and the DC Office on Aging (DCOA) will welcome over 1,000 seniors to DPR's Annual Senior Picnic, The 2012 Senior Fest, on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at DPR's Oxon Run Park, located at Wheeler Road & Valley Avenue, SE from 10 am to 2 pm. Lunch will begin at 12 noon.

For over 32 years, Senior Fest has been a wonderful event hosted by the District, DPR and DCOA. Seniors are able to spend time enjoying the outdoor activities, learn about available services and socialize with city officials and each other. This year, Senior Fest 2012 will start with a Fitness Kickoff  by William Yates, YMCA's Fit & Well Senior Coordinator, followed by an official welcome by Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Councilmember Tommy Wells, DPR Director Jesus Aguirre and DC Office on Aging's Executive Director, Dr. John M. Thompson.

The 2012 Senior Fest will feature musical entertainment from 'The Strength & Power Band', James Jackson and 'God's Miracle'; dance presentations from the Washington Wellness Centers' 'Diplomats of Fitness', Capital Kidds Dance Group, and the Model Cities Senior Dance Performers; as well as health information & screenings, board games and more. The Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Mobile Unit; the American Kidney Fund; YMCA; the Department of Health; the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking; the DC Board of Elections and Ethics; FEMS/ Street Calls Program; PSI Family Services for Seniors; the DC Lottery Board; “Camp Dynamite”; PEPCO; and the US Postal Inspection Service-Washington Division will provide informational vendor tables at the Senior Fest 2012. Seniors will be able to learn about services that these organizations provide, as well as participate in health screenings.
