Mayor's Assistance Center is Open for Those Affected by Navy Yard Shootings

(Washington, DC) The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) today reminded residents that since the King Greenleaf Recreation Center at 201 N Street, SW, will be used for the Mayor's Assistance Center, all gymnasium and indoor permits will be cancelled for today, Wednesday, September 18, and tomorrow, Thursday, September 19, from 9 am to 9 pm.

Also, the Marine Barracks Washington Annex Field at 8th and "Eye" Streets, SE, will be closed until further notice. Any individuals or groups with permits at either Greenleaf Recreation Center or the Marine Barracks field, should contact DPR's permits office at (202) 671-2597 for assistance or email [email protected].

District Opens Mayor’s Assistance Center for Those Affected by Navy Yard Shootings
King Greenleaf Recreation Center in SW is the site

(Washington, D.C.) – The District is setting up at the King Greenleaf Recreation Center for witnesses, neighbors and, over the next few days, Navy Yard employees and Marine Corps staff that may have witnessed the Navy Yard shootings.

The Mayor's Assistance Center is open today from 9 am to 5 pm at 201 N Street, SW, for anyone affected by the Navy Yard shootings. The center is open from 9 am to 9 pm Wednesday and Thursday. Crisis counselors and advocates will be at the rec center to assist with any needs, including mental health assistance, compensation assistance and assistance with return of property left in the buildings at the Navy Yard. Crime Victim Compensation staff will be on hand at both sites.

The FBI has established a Family Assistance Center for the families of the deceased and seriously injured at Bolling Air Force Base. However, family members of missing, deceased, or seriously injured victims may go to either location for assistance.

People seeking emergency mental health treatment can contact the DMH Access Helpline, which is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week.  Friends, family and survivors who need follow-up or longer-term care should contact the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, (202) 624-0010, or the Network for Victim Recovery of DC, (202) 727-1727.
