(WASHINGTON, DC) – Did you make a resolution to shed some pounds, tone up, or simply be more fit in 2016? Don’t let cost be a factor to why you haven’t made your resolution a reality. The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) fitness centers can help you put your plan in motion, for free!

“The District is on a pathway to healthy lifestyles, which includes healthy food choices and opportunities for regular workouts,” said Mayor Bowser. “We are taking preventative measures to change the culture of sickness, hospitals and medicine to a culture of wellness, activity and abundant life.”

As part of Mayor Bowser’s effort to encourage residents to stay fit, she has initiated fee waivers for District residents at DPR Fitness Centers. Previously, the fitness centers required a paid membership for access, but in 2016, those fees will be waived for District residents.  Non-DC residents are still required to pay.

“By Mayor Bowser waiving fees for DC residents for 2016 at DPR’s fitness centers, she has reinforced DPR’s mission to enhance the quality of life and wellness of DC residents by providing access to affordable and quality recreational services in all eight wards,” said DPR director Keith Anderson. “It’s a great time to get Fit, DC!”

DPR has 22 Fitness Centers citywide, which offer a variety of exercise equipment, including elliptical machines, stationary bikes, treadmills, free weights, universal weight machines and more. Register at one of DPR’s fitness centers or register online. All participants must complete and sign a waiver.
