(Washington, DC) – Do you know how to swim and have the desire to serve the community by keeping our swimming pools safe this summer?  The DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) has a job for you.

We will hire over 200 summer lifeguards in the coming weeks, and we are looking for dependable people who meet the following qualifications:

Lifeguard  [$11.50 per hour]

Qualifications:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Must possess good leadership and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work well with the public
  • Must be certified in the International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) - Training will be provided

Responsibilities:

  • Must ensure the safety of all swimmers
  • Respond to emergencies as required
  • Must always wear the uniform provided to him/her and arrive at the workplace 10 minutes before the allotted time
  • Responsible for surveying the entire pool, deck and pool areas
  • Enforce all pool rules and keep other pool staff alert of hideous or potential hazardous situations
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and quality of the pool water and carry out other duties as assigned
  • Must work well with other aquatics and site staff
