Naturalist Certification Course

This ten-part series was designed in response to a growing interest in eco-sensitive gardening, or gardening in a manner that considers and conserves the natural landscape of a given growing space.

The Naturalist Certification Course will familiarize the novice and experienced gardener alike with an understanding of DC’s unique ecosystem - from its native insects and flora, to the city’s challenge with storm water management - via a medley of workshops, lectures and plant walks. Participants of this 20-hour course will learn best practices and city-specific growing strategies from leaders of the naturalist movement in gardening.

Typical Schedule (May change year to year):

  • Garden Plant Botany
  • Native/Invasive Lecture
  • Native/Invasive Plant Walk
  • Intro to Urban Beekeeping
