Raymond Recreation Center and Playground

Status: Completed

Recreation Center

The DC Department of General Services (DGS) and the DC Department Parks and Recreation (DPR) demolished the current Raymond Recreation Center and constructed a new recreation center along with outdoor improvements. The new recreation center is attached to the Raymond Elementary School.  Some features of the new facility include:

  • Indoor gymnasium
  • Computer lab
  • Game room
  • Fitness room
  • Multipurpose rooms
  • Locker rooms
  • Offices

Playground and Outdoor Space

The project also includes exterior improvements, such as new play equipment and landscaping. Outdoor improvements include a new:

  • tennis court
  • basketball court
  • shade pavilion with picnic tables
  • game tables
  • fitness zone
  • play equipment for 2 to 5 and 6 to 12
  • pebble flex safety surface
  • artificial turf field with 2 youth soccer fields and walking track (1 field is for u-6 and one for U-9)
  • trees and landscaping.  
  • bio retention areas
  • ADA accessible

This playground features new state of the art equipment, new to the District of Columbia, and a new Eclipse Net Climber is the first installed in the country.  The "we saw" is a multi-seat see-saw, Its design and gentle rocking motion invites kids and families of all ages and abilities to participate in the fun. The We-saw is wheelchair accessible. The  We-saw provides opportunities for collaborative play and teamwork.

The "Pulse Tempo" is an interactive, multisensory game to  encourage movement in an exciting new way. Kids listen for the musical tones, chase lights, and are rewarded with five unique sounds and light shows.  It’s perfect for both solo enjoyment and social interaction. Its many benefits include: Music, Agility, Auditory stimulation, Visual, Tactile, Cardiovascular, Cognitive, Motor planning.
