DPR Celebrates Earth Day with Citywide Park Clean Up and Monthly Seed Box Distribution
WASHINGTON, DC – DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced its activities in conjunction with Earth Day, which include free seed subscription box giveaway to encourage residents to grow their own food and park clean up events at a number of DPR locations as part of Mayor Muriel Bowser's "Citywide Clean Up" for Earth Day weekend.
Starting today, April 21, the latest offering of free seeds will be available at Fort Stanton Recreation Center via the “DPR Seed Subscription Box” program. Once a month, at a different location throughout the city, DPR distributes a new box with a variety of seeds for residents to plant and enjoy. Registration is free and the boxes are available to be picked up within two weeks for those who sign up. The next seed box distribution will be Thursday, May 19 at Edgewood Recreation Center.
Residents can also celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 23, with clean up and beautification events at DPR recreation centers and parks across the District. DPR will host these clean up events and provide everything needed for this worthwhile task. No registration is necessary, participants can simple show up and get to work beautifying their community.
