(Washington, DC) – Today, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) DPR, the Coca-Cola Company and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) recognized a court resurfacing project at Benning Park Community Center, which is located at Southern Avenue and Fable Streets, SE. In partnership with the Coca-Cola Company, NRPA is providing grants to communities to improve parks and recreation facilities for community members.

DPR received the grant for tennis and basketball court resurfacing at Benning Park Community Center. DPR participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony in recognition of the dedication and outstanding work achieved by both NRPA and The Coca-Cola Company.

“This grant provided in partnership with the Coca-Cola Company and NRPA helps further DPR’s mission to provide quality recreation services throughout the city,” said DPR Director Keith A. Anderson. “It is our hope that the newly refurbished courts at Benning Park will increase physical fitness and wellness in our community.”

This initiative is helping ensure that families, teens and young adults have inviting places to gather and enjoy the outdoors. Grants to local communities are refurbishing active spaces such as ballfields and basketball courts.

“We are thrilled to be a part of this exciting celebration, which recognizes our commitment to improving parks and recreation facilities nationwide,” said Barbara Tulipane, NRPA President and CEO. “Undoubtedly, the improvements made at Benning Park will make a positive difference in the community — providing additional opportunities for all people to gather and spend time outdoors in their local park.”

Coca-Cola provided DPR Summer campers the opportunity to join the ceremony at Benning Park with a fun-filled day of activities and games.
