ATHLETIC PROGRAMS

DPR Kidz Softball Retreat
Riggs-LaSalle Recreation Center, 501 Riggs Road, NE

ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION

February 1 - March 1, 2011
DC Urban Beekeeping Workshop
Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th Street, NE
Time: 6:30pm – 8pm (Tuesdays)
Ages: 18 and up
Learn all about the interesting life of honey bees, their importance as pollinators and be prepared to join the existing DC beekeeping community at one of our urban hives. Students will leave ready to tend and inspect the hives, and can look forward to learning the methods for constructing a hive, harvesting bee product, extracting honey, disease control, and preparing the hives for winter. Pre- registration is required.
All interested registrant’s need to submit the preliminary course questionnaire.

After all the questionnaires have been submitted and reviewed you will receive a notice of your admittance. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this course, we are looking for truly committed and interested individuals to take the course. The youth of Southeast Tennis and Learning Center pay tribute in February for Black History Month to those who've paved the way living and deceased. The first date, February 12, 2011, will have select performances at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The second date, February 25, 2011, will include two performances. Just Girls Financial Education Workshop

TD Bank will conduct a workshop on financial education. As part of a classroom presentation, there trained Bank Instructor’s will teach topics such as:

  • the barter system and the history of money
  • the importance of saving
  • how to create a budget
  • understanding checking and ATM transactions
  • basic principles of investing

With teacher-written lesson plans that were developed in accordance with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards, they will take the students on an exciting journey through the world of banking and finance.
