Throughout the year the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers an exciting variety of programs, classes, and special events. Listed below are just some of the many activities offered this month by DPR. For more information on these or other events, visit any DPR center.

ATHLETIC PROGRAMS

DPR 2011 Adult Spring Registration Begins
Anacostia Fitness Center, 1800 Anacostia Drive, SE

Ages: 18 and up
DPR’S 2011 Adult Sports offer the following leagues: Men’s Slow Pitch, Coed 5-Men and 5-Women, Coed 7-Men and 3-Women, Men’s DC Sunday Fast Pitch and Flag Football (Coed, Men and Women). DMV Corporate Basketball League

Healthy Cooking Workshops
Sherwood Recreation Center, 640 10th Street, NE
Time: 4:00- 5:00pm
Students from GW’s ISCOPES team help lead youth nutrition education classes through cooking lessons, based around what can be grown in the garden. Lessons center on why fresh fruits and vegetables are good for the body, as well as the myriad environmental benefits of eating fresh local produce. A Celebration of Women in the Arts

Stroke Education Workshop

This workshop will provide free health education about stroke. In addition to helping participants identify ways to prevent stroke, they will learn how to identify stroke symptoms and act in time to receive emergency treatments.
