The Benning Park playground is the 20th renovation completed under the Play DC effort. Overall, 32 play spaces across the District were scheduled to be renovated through the initiative, but Mayor Gray’s announcement of eight additional renovations will bring the total to 40. Members of the Benning Park community were instrumental in choosing the latest renovated playground’s medieval theme, and new features include: net climbers; a “knight” picture spot; “dragon egg”-shaped climbing rocks; multiple spinners; a wee-saw (a six person see-saw); a pavilion with a green roof; adult fitness equipment; a walking track; refurbished basketball and tennis courts; picnic tables; ADA-accessible swings and walkways; and a new community garden with shed and demonstration area. |
